Remote mail server monitoring service helps you to be informed about your servers' status, availability and performance. That means your entire network functions at top performance and is more profitable. In general Dotcom-monitor works in the following way - it has remote agents which are positioned on three continents, acting just like real users. Remote agents will start to monitor your mail servers with the frequency that you've customize. These agents monitor all functions and ports of your server to insure it is accessible, that the security is intact, and is maintaining good performance. In the case of fall outside of the specified parameters notification process starts and you will get reports by email, phone calls and SMSs. So that you can minimize any down-time, malfunction or breach of security.
Almost all present-day mail servers use this protocol to deliver and receive e-mail messages. Whenever you send a e-mail, your e-mail client interacts with the SMTP server to handle the process of sending. Your SMTP server connects to other SMTP servers to actually deliver the e-mail message. Dotcom-Monitor's agents monitor the SMTP server by connecting to customized mail server and doing an SMTP handshake. If something goes wrong you will automatically receive notification message from Dotcom-Monitor.
To monitor POP3 serversDotcom-Monitor's remote network monitoring agents use a protocol which is similar to checking e-mail. They connect to mail server and log in using a password and user name that you provide during the registration process. For example when you check your e-mail your e-mail client connects to a POP3 server using port 110. The POP3 server requires an name and a password. Once you have logged into the POP3 server it opens your text file and allows you to access it. Dotcom-Monitor uses the same protocol to monitor your POP3 servers.
This option provides complete end-to-end monitoring of your mail servers. At first remote network monitoring agents test the SMTP server by sending an e-mail to a designated e-mail address. Then after that e-mail is sent Dotcom-Monitor tries to retrieve an e-mail that it sends from a POP3 server. If the SMTP or POP3 processes fail or mail is not found within a customized period of time you will receive a notification from Dotcom-Monitor.
Dotcom-Monitor supports notifications by email, regular phone, pager, mobile phone, SMS device and SNMP trap
